All our menus are prepared daily in our own facilities, with first class fresh ingredients that we chop up, dehydrate at a low temperature so that they retain all their nutrients and finally mix. That's all there is to it. They contain no animal flours and we use no colourings or chemical preservatives.

All our menus are a complete, balanced and 100% healthy diet for your dog, as they are formulated with a balanced proportion of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients for their health.

AltuDog is manufactured in our own dehydration plant located in Burgos, Spain and all its ingredients are of Spanish origin. The Wagyu beef in particular is produced on our own farm, so we control the breeding and feeding process of the animals from start to finish, to ensure traceability.

All the meat we use comes from pieces fit for human consumption, not waste or by-products, and is cold-dried in small cubes. You can see for yourself by looking at the pieces of meat that make up AltuDog.

The fruits and vegetables are chopped, washed and dehydrated separately at low temperature to maintain their properties. They are the same ones that you can find in fruit and vegetable shops, they are not by-products or waste fruit and vegetables.

AltuDog is therefore dehydrated raw food. As the ingredients are dehydrated at a low temperature, no cooking takes place. If you wish, you can add boiling water instead of hot water to cook the ingredients.

As it is a dehydrated food, to optimise its digestibility you should hydrate it with hot water (tap water is sufficient) and leave it to rest for 10 to 15 minutes. In this way, the ingredients recover their hydration, enhancing their smell and flavour, making them even more appetising. If you add very hot water, the hydration process will be faster. If desired, it can also be boiled for 5-10 minutes to soften the ingredients a lot.

Be sure to check that it doesn't burn before giving it to your furry friend.

You should always add half as much water as product. For example, if the dry portion is 100g, you should add approximately 50g of water.

The product does not ‘swell’ and the water does not disappear completely absorbed by the ingredients, but becomes a delicious meaty broth that will provide hydration. The fruits and vegetables gain some volume and the brown rice is broken down to make it more digestible. All the ingredients along with the meat are softened by the hydration process, although the meat pieces are left with a harder consistency so that it is not mush and can be chewed by the dog.

All packages are packaged in a modified atmosphere, i.e. they have air inside (not vacuum) and as long as they are kept unopened they have a shelf life of up to 4 months.

AltuDog is a natural food without any preservatives or chemical products, so while it is closed it should be kept in a cool, dry place without heating or sunlight, such as a pantry or garage, at a temperature below 20ºC. Once opened, it should be kept in the fridge for 25 days in its own zipped bag or in a tupperware. Once opened, if you wish, you can also freeze it in the daily doses that correspond to your dog to use them when you need them.

Yes, for dogs with kidney problems the most recommended AltuDog menus are the chicken with brown rice menu and/or the rabbit with brown rice menu.

There are several myths about the need to reduce protein intake in case of kidney disease which have been persisted over the years by petfood manufacturers, but at the moment there is no scientific data to prove that kidney disease is caused by too much animal protein.

In many cases, what we must minimise at the renal level are the purines, which are transformed into urea nitrogen during their degradation. To do this, we must always look at the components of the feed in order to know its quality. The feed does not necessarily have to be low in protein. For example, a feed can be high in protein (30-40%), but it can come from chicken and eggs (low in purines) and be very low in purines. Another feed may be low in protein (20%) but come from pork or game, or contain offal, and be very high in purines.

On the other hand, we must pay attention to the amount recommended by the manufacturer to cover the needs in each case. Normally, low-protein feeds contain high levels of carbohydrates that the dog does not assimilate well and we make the kidneys work harder than they should. In addition, a larger quantity of these feeds must be given, so that in the end the grams of protein ingested can be high and also of vegetable, not animal, origin.

In summary, the recommended food for dogs with this type of pathology should contain foods low in purines, preferably rabbit meat, chicken meat, egg, potato, rice... And avoid meats with a high purine content such as turkey, oily fish, pork, beef, offal of any type of meat...
