Hemp oil, 200ml
Hemp oil is a high-quality vegetable source of alpha-linolenic acid. It can be used as an alternative food to fish oils (salmon or omega oil), but also as a substitute for them. While fish oils are usually high in EPA and DHA, hemp oil contains a lot of alpha-linolenic acid as well as gamma-linolenic acid (precursor of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids), thus strengthening the immune system.
Due to its high content of these polyunsaturated fatty acids, it is suitable as a healthy feed supplement, whether for BARF, canned meat feeding or as a complement to dry feed. Vegetarian animals also benefit from the spectrum of hemp oil, which provides them with essential fatty acids.
Unlike other vegetable oils with a high proportion of omega 3 + 6 fatty acids (such as linseed or borage oil), hemp oil naturally contains a lot of vitamin E, which acts as a natural antioxidant and thus considerably strengthens the stability of the oil.
In addition, hemp is an undemanding and robust crop that produces good yields even with little use of yield enhancers (fertilisers/pesticides, etc.), i.e. it is correspondingly uncontaminated. Therefore, simple filtering is sufficient for hemp oil; in general, it is not necessary to refine it to remove harmful substances from the oil.
In addition to providing essential fatty acids, feeding hemp oil can have an anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effect due to its content of alpha- and gamma-linolenic acid, prostaglandin E1 and stearic acid. For this reason, supplementary feeding can be useful in cases of allergies, eczema or chronic inflammation, inflammatory problems such as arthritis, muscular pains, etc.
It can be administered to dry, scaly and itchy skin, thus contributing to healthy skin and a shiny coat. The linoleic acid contained in the oil is not only beneficial for the coat and skin, but also promotes cell structure, joints and the immune system.
Hemp oil is even said to have antispasmodic properties (Sabine Krist, Lexikon der pflanzlichen Fette und Öle, p. 257).
At the same time, it has a positive effect on skin appearance and coat growth.
Puppies need alpha linolenic acid for their brain development. Giving hemp oil to the mother can be useful during pregnancy and lactation.
